In 2006, US SAILING joined forces with Children's Melanoma Prevention Foundation when US SAILING Director, Susan Epstein, introduced our SunAWARE Program to her board. The SunAWARE at Sea Program was born with the objective of raising awareness of the heightened risk of skin cancer among boaters and to introduce SunAWARE lessons. CMPF went on to teach at the

US SAILING National Program Symposium in Clearwater, Florida. and at Annapolis, Maryland. They were able to share their mission with hundreds of administrators from around the country and entree to local programs. Children's Melanoma Prevention Foundation has created program specific materials including a SunAWARE infoflier and a children's book entitled,
Danger at Graves Light. The book was endorsed by US SAILING and features an introduction by Susan Epstein. CMPF has written feature articles in OptiNews, a US Sailing publication with topics that include the SunAWARE acronym, eye health, sun protection clothing, Don't Fry Day, skin classifications, etc. Over the years CMPF has taught thousands of young boaters to be SunAWARE. SunAWARE at Sea programs are available, free-of-charge, for local teaching at sailing and boating centers in New England.
